We get a campus newsletter every week indicating events going on and upcoming news. There was a section on making teams for various sports and one of them was for beach volleyball. I asked the Vetprep class if they wanted to start a beach volleyball team (there are only 17 of us so it wouldn't be that hard to start a team). Our "practice" game was this past friday!! We are called -VPs Do It Best- the VP being for Vetprep, just to clarify. I thought it was clever, Jenny made it up, I guess that's why she is class rep (; We lost really bad, but we played the 6th semester veterans, so it is excusable. We are also in the "B league" which is just for fun...my noodles definitely could not handle the competitive "A Team". Everyone else seems to agree as well. Anyways, we play every friday after class, it just a time to wind down after a long school week. Classes are FINALLY starting to pick up and I find my studying a lot more. Our first block exams are on Monday!! 2 hours full of four exams, I hope I do alright.
This is after volleyball, we are sitting around watching other teams. This lovely pup belongs to some of our orientation group friends, Brittany and Marlana. I automatically fell in love with him and I hope they keep him even though I have heard stories of bodily functions happening in their new car! He is worth it!
Jenny loves him too.
This is further into the night, Alicia, a fellow classmate, is taking a kittitian remedy for hiccups or something. I am not quite sure but it is funny.
OK so this is a large lizard that decided to camp out in Jenny's room. After a slight tap at my bedroom door and a silent "sara...are you still awake?" I yell yeah and Jenny says "can you come here, there is a large lizard in my room"...I was out of bed pretty quickly. Then, me being the agile individual I am, I climbed onto her dresser with rubber cleaning gloves on and our micro book and a plastic cup. I was able to cup Mr. lizzy and trap him with the book. No worries!! We set him free!!
On Sat. I went with Jenny onto campus and helped her paint faces of kittitian children for the RUSVM open house. Every year the univeristy has an open house to educate the community of exactly what we do at Ross. It was pretty shocking to here children say they did not know what a veterinarian was or what they did. The table set up infront of us was for an organization called PAWS (People for Animal Welfare on St. Kitts). I want to become the adoption coordinator for this organization, but a lot of people are interested so we shall see, fingers crossed.
The little girl in the picture came up to me and asked for "a pretty pretty princess" on her cheek. I said "how about a heart! haha...She compromised with a rainbow on her forehead!! Dosen't she look like a carebear!!?
Just a really pretty pic of campus. PS only roughly one month until we know the results of the AVMA visit that occurred last week!!
Just hanging with some leatherback turtles in between classes...they are really cute.
Soooo Jenny and I thought it would be really cool to go for a "leisure" hick to a bat cave on Sunday....That turned into a short hike through the brush into a full blown rock quarry.
Into the hike (I don't think I have ever sweat so much just because it was really muggy), we had to climb up a rock using a rope with knots on it. After proclaiming I had no upper body strength, the student helping all the girls up the rock was like "no worries, it's all legs." That it was all legs, but it was also all footing, which I slipped and almost smacked him in the face...Anyways, I got up with no harm done. Another comical part of the hike was the continuous little slips here and there, Jenny slipped once when she was infront of me and I had to fully palm both her butt cheeks in order to stop her lol. We had a laugh about that.
Jenny waiting in line to climb up the rock.
The infamous bat cave!!! It seemed so miniscule after the 2 hour hike there....but pretty cool nonetheless. You could hear and see the bats flapping away.
Alas, what goes up must come down..this is Jenny going back down the rock. I feel bad because she screwed up her hand by smashing it between rock and rope..goo. Jenny took some pics of me going down which she will upload and give me later, so just enjoy her lovely face for now.
I am in the background in between some long vines.
Sweaty and pooped!
Leisure hike, yeah right!? We rewarded ourselves with iceream at port with Maddie and Alicia.
Orion love hanging out in my room. He has made himself quite at home (:
Yay!!! MI products in the grocery store...they only cost me $64364.00 (jk).
Our wonderful 3 semester neighbor made some chicken veggie casserol and let us have some...yummmmm!!!! You have no idea how good this was to me, no home cooking for 3 weeks will do that to you!
I made this purchase today and am so freakin excited to use it!!! Only 20ec, can't go wrong.
Me trying some "rosta pasta" at the carribean cooking class we went to. It was pretty informational, we learned what days and times to go into port and buy fresh fruits and veggies at the market. Also, what specific vendors to buy from and where to get good fresh fish. You have to go early in the morning when the fishermen are just putting their catch of the day out and deboning them. I don't think Jenny and I will venture to get fish anytime soon, we may ask someone more seasoned to the island to get it for us. However, we did go down to the agricultural department in town to get some seedlings to start a garden, but all they had were cabbage and eggplant, goo. So we will go another time when there are better baby seedies.
And just in case you were wondering, I do study! I actually have had to study much more lately due to exams...so I am off to make a bunch of index cards (:
What I was gazing at while studying on campus..pretty gorgeous huh..
